Geography

The archipelago of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, situated in the North West Atlantic ocean, 25 km off of the coast of Newfoundland, is a little bit of France, at the opening of the Gulf of St-Lawrence, facing Canada. 4 600 km separate these islands from Paris.

Back and forth between the French and English, French after all since 1816, the archipelago of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon forms three principal islands : Saint-Pierre (26km2), Miquelon (110 km2) and Langlade (91 km2). Miquelon and Langlade are connected by a sand bar which creates a salt water lagoon in the northern part call "Le Grand Barachois".

Population

The total population is 6 316 divided up in the following manner : 5 618 people live in Saint-Pierre and 698 live in Miquelon.
